Temperature and Dissolved Oxygen: Why They Matter
Bass and other sport fish become stressed above 85°F. Dissolved oxygen (DO) levels below 4 mg/L cause stress; below 2 mg/L is lethal. In summer tournaments, livewell water temperatures can reach 88–92°F and DO can crash in heavily loaded livewells. Ice in the livewell reduces temperature (1 lb ice per gallon drops temperature approximately 5°F). Oxygenators address the DO problem that aeration alone can't solve in hot conditions.
