Sonar Technology Live Sonar

Live sonar, also called forward-facing sonar or real-time sonar, displays fish, structure, and even your lure moving in real time — similar to watching a live underwater video feed. Unlike traditional sonar and imaging, which show a scrolling history of what has already passed beneath your boat, live sonar shows what is happening right now.

The three major live sonar systems on the market are Garmin LiveScope, Lowrance ActiveTarget, and Humminbird MEGA Live. All three offer multiple viewing modes: forward mode (scans ahead of the boat), down mode (looks directly below), and perspective or scout mode (a wide-angle forward view that covers more area). Each system requires a dedicated transducer and processing unit connected to a compatible display.

Live sonar has revolutionized fishing by allowing anglers to watch fish react to their lure presentations in real time.
