LiveScope is Garmin's forward-facing live sonar system and is widely considered the benchmark product in the real-time sonar category. Originally launched as an evolution of Garmin's earlier Panoptix technology, LiveScope delivers real-time underwater imaging that allows anglers to watch fish, structure, and lure movement as it happens — fundamentally changing the approach to targeting individual fish.
The current LiveScope Plus system uses the LVS34 transducer paired with the GLS 10 black box processor. It offers Forward, Down, and Perspective viewing modes. Forward mode scans ahead at casting distance, Down mode provides a real-time view below the transducer, and Perspective mode delivers a wide-angle forward view that covers more area with a single sweep. Compatible displays include Garmin's ECHOMAP Ultra, ECHOMAP UHD2, and GPSMAP series.
LiveScope is particularly praised for its shallow water performance, where the clarity and target separation in 3 to 15 feet of depth surpasses competing systems. The ability to see individual fish, track lure movement, and watch fish reactions in real time has made LiveScope the most popular live sonar among bass, crappie, and panfish anglers who fish shallow structure and cover.
The system's popularity has sparked debate in competitive fishing. Several tournament organizations have restricted or considered restricting live sonar use, citing the significant advantage it provides. Regardless of competitive rules, LiveScope has permanently changed recreational fishing by giving anglers unprecedented real-time awareness of the underwater environment within casting range.
